Said farewell to Hokitika after swim in local pool which is a rather impressive 35 metres or so by 20 but otherwise very basic. Not crowded though and had much of it to myself for last 15 minutes.Broke journey to the glaciers at place called Pukekura where the local store/museum celebrates the old bushwhackers and New Zealand’s commitment to wildlife and the environment. In this case, it includes keeping deer and other animals round the back.
All the time getting closer the glaciers (Franz Josef and Fox) and the mountains, snow-capped even though summer here is just round the corner. Arrived at motel in Franz Josef. The building sits at the foot of one to the smaller peaks but even that has a coating of snow. Dave
