Here we are again!

Well, here we are on blogspot again and on our own computer too! This morning we decided to be bold and try to replace some of our stolen items, hoping that the travel insurance people will cough up when we return. We've made a list and let them know we'll be claiming! So now we have a new netbook computer, a miniature wireless mouse, a camera card reader, a mobile phone for Dave and a phone charger for me.

What I don't have is any jewellery, apart form the special pieces Dave gave me for birthday and Christmas as I was wearing them on New Year's Eve. I must admit, I feel almost naked without any. Sadly the new jewellery my sister, Tina, gave me for my birthday was stolen, as was the jade I bought in New Zealand.

We've been busy in town today so don't have many photos, but as we now have the wherewithal I thought I'd just post a few from New Year's Eve to give an idea of the evening.

The firework display was wonderful with a "Family" set at nine o'clock and the "BIG" one at midnight.

We chose a place at the rear of our vessel so we could have a table for our drinks and a rail to lean on. In fact, we couldn't have picked a better viewing position. Lucky us!

Aftermath

Spent much of New Year's Day dealing with the aftermath (contacting bank, police, insurance etc). We now know about 11 rooms were burgled in all and that in and around the area other properties were also attacked.

The thieves were obviously taking advantage of the fact that virtually all tourists in Sydney would be down by the Harbour for the New Year celebrations and fireworks.

Anyhow we are pressing on and hope today to at least obtain a replacement laptop and mobile. Jean heads off to Alice Springs on Saturday morning while I catch up wtih friends in Sydney and recoup New Year losses at Randwick racecourse. Third test between Oz and South Africa also starts tomorrow. Dave
