Racing at Randwick

winners from four selections at Randwick racecourse but good to be back there. Top class racing, a sort of Sandown Park in the suburbs.

In fact the course is not too far from the Sydney Cricket Ground where the third test between Australia and South Africa started today. Shared the bus back to town with people leaving soon after the close (Australia on 267-6; could be worse).

Hope to go there on Monday when there should be room for non-ticket holders paying at the gate.

A Town Like Alice

No doubt Dave will post a lovely piece later on, with photos from Sydney, but I'm just writing from a kiosk at a hotel in Alice Springs, so no photos at the mo. I hope to have a good selection in a few days when I've come back from Uluru/Ayers Rock,. I'm really excited about about this trip!

I expected Alice to be hot and dry. Well, it's both of those, with temperatures in the 30s and many of the water courses I saw on the way from the airport completely dried up.

What I wasn't expecting was a town that's more than half closed! I went out earlier to explore, but found little that was open to visit!
