Queenstown From Above

I had been hoping to do a sky dive from here, but the weather prevented it on Monday and I didn’t really want to book ahead in case the weather wasn’t suitable today.

An alternative was rising the hill adjacent to our apartment in the “gondola” to take in the views from the summit and just possibly book up a hang gliding session. We had seen people descending earlier but unfortunately, by the time we were able to go, the operation had ceased and people were being transferred to another location, twenty kilometres away. Since we needed to travel to Invercargill, we decided not to go ahead.

The views, not only of the town, but of the surrounding area, certainly were worth the trip, especially on a clear day.

Maybe there’ll be a hang gliding report in the next week or so!

Sheep may safely graze - or not

Having said yesterday there are 38 million sheep in New Zealand, this guy on the side of the desperately steep slope leading to the summit overlooking Queenstown seems keen on reducing the population.

Easy two-hour drive down to Invercargill in the afternoon ahead of Stewart Island tomorrow and then on to Dunedin where we have tickets on Saturday for day three of the first test between New Zealand and West Indies. Some rain forecast, however.
