Greyhound racing at Ascot

By pure coincidence our motel on the outskirts of Invercargill is only 400 yards from the local racetrack called Ascot Park. Unlike Royal Ascot , the course also hosts trotting and greyhound meetings. When I happened by in the early afternoon, they were holding some races for the dogs, part of a marathon 14-event programme with just a handful of trainers and kennel staff watching on. Fodder for the betting shops.

Saturday will be different when they stage their big Christmas meeting, for horses, but by then we will be up in Dunedin for the test match. Happened to notice also that Middlesbrough v Arsenal on Saturday is live here at 0130 on Sunday. Too much sport?
